Turkish Future Tense :Why do we sometimes add a “-y-” in the future tense? For example, “yapacak” but “anlayacak”?

Simple Answer:
Because of this simple rule:
If the verb root ends with a vowel and the suffix starts with a vowel, we put a “-y-” in between to prevent two vowels from coming together.

  • yap (ends with a consonant) + -acak = yapacak (No -y- needed)
  • anla (ends with a vowel) + -acak = anla-y-acak (-y- is needed)
