Understanding Turkish Suffix Harmony: A Guide for “e göre / a göre / ye göre / ya göre”

In English, we say “according to” one word. In Turkish, it changes based on the word it follows! This is called vowel harmony and buffer letters (kaynaştırma harfleri).

The Main Rule (Step-by-Step)

Why the buffer letter Y? 🛡️
Because Turkish hates when two vowels touch! The -y- acts as a protective shield (a “consonant buffer”) to keep them apart and make pronunciation smooth. Without it, saying “Ali-e göre” would be very difficult.
