The Future Tense Negative in Turkish
The negative form of the Future Tense in Turkish is used to express actions that will not happen in the future. It’s similar to “will not” or “won’t” in English.
The structure is very consistent:

Take the verb root (the basic form of the verb without the
-mek/-maksuffix).-
Example:
yap-mak(to do) -> root:yap

Add the negative suffix
-maor-me. This suffix follows the major vowel harmony rules.-
If the last vowel of the verb root is a, ı, o, u -> use
-ma -
If the last vowel of the verb root is e, i, ö, ü -> use
-me

Then, add the future tense suffix
-acakor-ecek. This suffix also follows vowel harmony and the consonant mutation rule (k -> ğ). -
Finally, add the personal suffix.
The tricky part (Why sometimes -ma, sometimes -me?):
It’s all about vowel harmony! The negative suffix changes to blend smoothly with the vowels in the verb root. It makes the word easier to pronounce.
Daily Turkish vs. Grammatical Turkish:
In daily conversations, people often shorten the future tense negative. Instead of saying yapmayacağım, they might say yapmicam or yapmıcam. It’s very common in spoken language, but you should always use the full form in writing.
